Saturday night. Khao San Road, Bangkok. Street is full of bars and clubs, and it continues until at least 3am, locals and farang (westerners of european descent).
At 6pm I walk over to Wat Mahadhatu, a buddhist temple, to learn about buddhism and meditation. Interesting, good night. Might talk about it more another time.
So, Bangkok. I’m here for a few days passing through before I head to Cambodia, and a friend from Vietnam is in in town for a day as he passes through. We visit the Royal Palace and temple complex. If you’re not appropriately dressed (they take it further here than ‘normal’ temples), then you can borrow a shirt with sleeves and a sarong or pants to the ankles.
Other than that I didn’t do much for my few days in Bangkok. Not much of a fan of cities so spent some time getting up to date online and finished the book ‘The Secret Life of Bees’ very quickly. Also had a massage.
One morning I could hear a lot of noise from my room and when I went downstairs there was a parade passing. A monk blessing things left and right, music, flowers and occasionally fire crackers. Asked a guy what it was for, and he said ‘for the monks, for today’. So that’s clear.
