Top 100 Aussie Blogs

Last week I (EnjoyPerth.net) entered Meg’s Top 100 Australian Blogs Index (based on the list in Craig Harper’s sidebar) at number 23, after finally getting my blog claimed at Technorati!

At the moment I’m ranked at 27, but that is still much higher than I was expecting.

How exciting, my first list!

On the one hand I’m quite pleased, on the other hand, it doesn’t mean heaps, as it all depends on the criteria where your blog ends up on a list (technorati and alexa (aus) ranking for this one).

Then there’s the fact that I feel embarrassed, I don’t feel like much of a blogger half the time, it’s just a news website with an rss feed, comments, etc etc. I don’t include many personal thoughts anymore. I like to stick to the facts and I like that when people google something, they find the exact info they were looking for, and I can see in my stats that that is what is happening! Though obviously what appears as posts on the blog filter through me, so it’s never objective as such.
Still, it’s a bit of fun, and great that Meg and Craig put such effort into promoting Australian blogs!

As Meg says, also check out australianblogs.com.au, The Australian Index, Gnoos and blogs.com.au.
Duncan Riley has made an opml file for the whole list, which will make it easy to subscribe to all of them at the same time (sounds a bit scary, but I guess you could always cull them later! I don’t think people in Sydney will care much about what’s happening in Perth!).

Some other blogs from WA that made the list (that I know off the top of my head are from WA, as I read or have read them!):

Obviously there’s many, many more great blogs from WA, check out some of them in my sidebar (which hasn’t been updated in a while) –>

Logical post Simone. Great to get to know a few more West Aussies in the mix. I had no idea that Karen Cheng was from WA (even after reading her blog on and off for the past 12 months) – duh!!

Thanks Stuart, bit of a ramble as usual (one of the reasons I like to stick to the facts, anything else by me turns into a ramble, I’m just not a writer)

Funny that you didn’t know Karen was from WA! Her’s was one of the first blogs I discovered (I think through the Bloggies), and even though she doesn’t have an rss feed, I like it so much I actually remember to check it every so often(though my memory is so bad, I sometimes forget for weeks! :D )

    Congrats on making the list!

And I wouldn’t be worried about facts vs. opinion — you’ve developed your own writing style which is just as blog-worthy as any other.

When you started with Enjoy Perth I was a bit sceptical that a blog was the right format for that kind of info, but you’ve done a really good job with it! It is now the first place I visit when wondering “what shall I do this weekend?” :-)

    Thanks Hourann/Pencil Guy/azza-bazoo (what to call you? :D )

Yeah, it’s definitely not the perfect medium, and that’s why I felt I needed a calendar as well(though can’t seem to find the perfect one, so not !00% happy with that either).

Then there’s always the thoughts about what to write about and what not, and the guilt(daily!) of writing about only ‘mainstream’ events, well, in the individual posts at least.
How I would love to cover everything… all the local music gigs, regular (weekly/monthly) organised events, art exhibitions, community theatre… it’s just impossible. I’ve though of making it a group thing, but I can see it getting very complicated…

So I guess what I’m doing now is working, but it’s not precisely what I had in mind when starting out!

Now, about your blog. I don’t spend much time reading/knowing about many things politics(again, guilt about that too), but some of your thoughts are often what flash through my head(but I don’t know enough about the subjects to know if what I’m thinking makes sense at all), and so it’s great to read thoughts from someone who (seem to :D ) know what they’re talking about, and links to things that back it up (not that I usually have time/inclination to click on those links(guilt again…), but just the fact that they’re there…)
Anyway, I believe the above paragraph doesn’t make much sense, so I’ll stop now!!!! My point is I like your blog, and I acually like it short and to the point, as (as bad as it is), I probably wouldn’t read it if it were much longer….
Me, insecure and often confused? Never!!!! :D
