Taxi shortage

Wow, I knew there was a taxi shortage, I just didn’t know it was quite this bad!

I went to my work’s Christmas function at Gloucester Park last night. From Thornlie eight of us took a maxicab. It was 20 minutes late, but did only cost $40, which I thought was quite good, as we were quoted $60.

The night at Gloucester Park was good. We were with 300 people of different backgrounds, and I think nearly everyone enjoyed themselves, either just mingling, watching the harness racing or dancing!

We had ordered a maxicab to take us home for 11.45pm. I was afraid it wouldn’t show up, but I had hoped there would at least be other normal taxis… At 1am we called Swan Taxis for the third time, and they said they couldn’t tell us if a taxi would show up, and the best thing to do would be to hail down one. Problem was, none came past. There were about 20 people waiting, and no taxis at all. So people started ringing family to pick them up, family that was already asleep.

Pascal, I and two others walked to Claisebrook Train Station (barefoot with high heels in hand….!!) and waited around for the 2am train. It was quite full with drunk, young people, but there were guards in each carriage and no hassles. This last train didn’t go to Thornlie, but we got off at Maddington instead. The friends who had got a family member to pick them up had gone home in that time and had a shower, and then came and picked us up at the station to drop us back off at the car, which was certainly not a walkable distance! So, we got to bed around 3am! Ah, I do love adventures though!

Hi Simone, What a night! I hope you enjoyed Gloucester Park and didn’t feel too wrecked after all the waiting. We cancelled our cricket training on Melbourne Cup day because a few players use taxis and we didn’t expect there’d be many available that day. Bit of a problem! By the way, I’ve just noticed you cool Meetup logo – is there somewhere I can get one, even if it’s not the same? I looked at the meetup site awhile ago but maybe I didn’t look hard enough! Cheers, Dee

It was a great night, and as I was the one that organised most of it, I’m very glad everyone enjoyed themselves, lots of people on the dancefloor!

Ahhh, I looked for a long time to find that Meetup button! I was actually looking for something smaller (like what Skribe and TP have on their blog), but on the meetup site they only have a few… see here:
    http://www.meetup.com/friends/toolkit/
The link to it is right down in the footer of the website, took me ages to find!

I’d still prefer a slightly smaller one, I should really ask the others where they got theirs, or get Pascal to make one…

Workmates on the dancefloor – scary! Glad it went off so well. :-) Thanks for the link to the Meetup icons, a smaller one would be easier to fit somewhere, for sure. I’m a proud member but maybe not so big and proud. :-) I do like the icon otherwise!

Yes, workmates on the dancefloor= sometimes scary, mostly hilarious!

Yes, it’s a nice icon but slightly to big!
